bio

Neal Ten Eyck is a Camera Operator and award winning Cinematographer based in Western New York. He shoots narrative, documentary, commercials, and sports (NFL and NHL), and is also versed in reality television, docu-series’, music videos, live events and performance art as a producer/shooter. His partner list includes NFL Films, Viceland, VICE,  A+E, NBC Universal, History Channel, BET, NFL Network, Ford, Hallmark, Fox Sports GO, New Era Cap Company, and ABC to name a few.

Neal lensed The Dead Man’s Number, which went on to win a Gold Remi Award at the 47th annual WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival in the Suspense/Thriller Shorts category. This is the third oldest film festival in the United States and past Remi Award winners include Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Ang Lee, Ridley Scott, the Coen brothers, Oliver Stone and David Lynch.

Neal has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film Production from the City College of New York which boasts the oldest continuous curriculum in the study of motion pictures of any university in America.

At a young age Neal shot his first films on the Fisher-Price PXL2000 he had received as a Christmas gift from his family. Somehow he had realized that Hershey’s chocolate syrup could be perceived as blood in the black and white medium, hence his first film fell into the thriller genre. Later Neal would experiment with and pull off more sophisticated in camera SFX in his music videos with the same camera. As a young adult, Neal became a still photographer, which eventually came back full circle as he applied his stills experience to motion pictures.

Neal believes in light, shadow, and above all a good story. He also thinks it is ok to write in third person from time to time. He is a proud father, loving husband, caring dog owner, variable surfer, ocean lover, and affable friend.

PROFICIENCIES ºº EXPERIENCE + TOOLS

I can work with any camera on the market but am most comfortable and in love with Arri. The Amira, Arri Alexa-Mini, and any of the other iterations in the Arri line. Most recently I was able to work with the amazing and recently released Alexa LF on a Japanese horror film. RED cameras are a close second as well as the Canon line.

I’m a SOA (Steadicam Operators Association) workshop graduate and was lucky to study under great instructors like, Jerry Holway, Garrett Brown, and Mike O’Shea on May of 2008 in Exton, PA. Since then, I have gone on to operate handheld camera gimbals like the DJI Ronin and Freefly MoVI. But my most recent endeavor and amazing tool is my DJI Mavic Pro 2 drone. What a wonderful piece of equipment it is to capture such epic scenes.

I recently was accepted into the International Cinematographers Guild Local 600 Union and am proud to have received my Camera Operator membership.
